Alice and I met Nguisse Nare at a restaurant in Daye Bensa with our guide, Asnake. The meeting was formal and austere, partly because of a language barrier. But we then set out to tour his farm at over 2300 MASL, where the dirt roads had to be navigated by motorcycles. He lit up as he walked us through his beautiful operation. With minimal infrastructure, he processes natural and anaerobic natural lots on raised beds. We’re really excited about this special coffee because his attention to his work carries all the way through to your cup!
Notes from our Roaster
Nguisse Mare’s anaerobic natural is as close to candy as you can get with a coffee. The added fermentation develops a juicy, candy-like tropical flavor and a depth not exactly captured in the “berry” realm of our flavor notes. It’s rare to have a coffee this intense and yet so delicate all at once. This is another great example of “complexity,” and complexity is precisely what we look for in coffees for our Small Batch Release. Many aspire to produce coffees like Nguisse’s, but few can rival.
